HEDDI KEIL

Canadian born Heddi Keil hails from the small Ontario town of Oshawa, where she spent her idyllic 1950s childhood. Her father, a pianist and an accordionist, was a refugee from Germany, and her mother a sweet Canadian home-maker of Hungarian-Jewish ancestry.  After overcoming the cultural shock of moving to the big city of Toronto at the age of 10, as a teenager Heddi enjoyed its 60s and 70s dynamism. Combining an interest in the body and the mind, Heddi studied physiological psychology at York University. She graduated with a bachelors degree in psychology in 1974.  Heddi met and married Mark Keil of Montreal in 1979, and following his scientific career they moved to the prairie city of Edmonton, Alberta, where their 5 children were born. Ten years later a further career move led them to the small U.S. city of Norman, Oklahoma where the 200 Jewish people there enjoyed careers primarily as meterologists, doctors or university professors.  Believing that Israel, however, was really the place for Jewish people to live, the Keil family came to live in Israel in 1999 and settled in Raanana. Heddi has always been sensitive to the mystical within her life, and although she has had to deal with two tragedies within her family, she has found that her spirituality, and the warmth and kindness of the Israeli people have helped her immensely. Her interests lie in reading history, portrait drawing, and freelance writing. Heddi works as an English teacher in Raanana.
